The Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Committee leads the work of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery (FoPS) as the advisory body for the practice of podiatric surgery and podiatric surgery training.

Ewan Kannegieter

Mr Ewan Kannegieter is a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon and currently serves as the Dean of Podiatric Surgery at the Royal College of Podiatry (2024-2026), after previously holding positions as Vice-Dean and Chair of the Southern Deanery. He co-chaired the Annual Scientific Conference for Podiatric Surgery (FOPS Conference) in 2022 and 2023. Mr. Kannegieter is a Fellow of both the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery at the Royal College of Podiatry and the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow.

He played a key role in launching the Mid Essex Diabetes Amputation Reduction Plan (MEDARP), an NHS England Transformation-funded initiative aimed at reducing major amputation rates and hospital stays while improving survival through limb salvage for diabetic patients. Additionally, he is an affiliate lecturer for the University of Huddersfield's Masters in Podiatric Surgery program and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, CT, USA.

Mr. Kannegieter has frequently served on the teaching faculty for cadaveric courses across Europe and the UK, covering diabetic limb salvage, core foot and ankle surgery, and ultrasound. He has mentored many healthcare professionals to become advanced clinical practitioners. He also sits on the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford and leads the governance group for its MSK, SEM, Orthopaedic, Radiology and Podiatric consultants.

Beyond his professional work, he enjoys coaching and supporting his sons' grassroots football team, Thorley Manor FC, where he also serves as an FA First Aider.

Tommy holds substantive NHS consultant appointments within the areas of South Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. In 2021 he was an elected Faculty committee member, a role he held for two years. Further, in 2023 he was subsequently selected as the Northern Regional Deanery Chair, a role he continues to date with a focus of work around higher training of specialist registrars in the region. 

Tommy highly values education and development within the surgical arena and is always keen to teach and learn himself. He is an invited external faculty instructor with the Vascular Society for Great Britain and Ireland, cultivating the next generation in the management of the diabetic foot on the Aspire course. To date, he is a regular visiting lecturer with the University of Huddersfield on both the Masters programmes for Podiatric Surgery and is also a registered surgical tutor.

Since graduating in 2001 Mr Withey has worked in the NHS specialising in Podiatric Surgery (foot surgery).

After completing specialist training at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh and Glasgow Caledonian University, he was awarded his fellowship in Podiatric Surgery from the Royal College of Podiatry (FRCPodS) in 2013. Since gaining his completion certificate in Podiatric Surgical training (2015) Mr Withey has worked as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon within the NHS and private sector. 

Mr Withey's NHS practice consists of managing his own caseload of complex diabetic foot surgery and elective foot surgery, as part of the Orthopaedic team. He works across two NHS trusts, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust and East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust providing specialist treatment. Mr Withey is the current South region Dean for the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Committee.

Mr Withey has has lectured at many national conferences on various foot conditions and has published his preferred surgical technique for the treatment of mid-foot osteoarthritis in the leading international foot journal, Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Declan graduated from Ulster University with BSc (Hons) in podiatry in 2014. He graduated from University of Huddersfield with MSc Theory in Podiatric Surgery in 2019. During his MSc studies, he worked as a Staff Podiatrist at Ilkeston Community Hospital. Later in 2019, he gained a post as a trainee in podiatric surgery at Buxton Hospital under the tutorship of Mr Frank Webb.

He recently achieved a Distinction in the Master of Podiatric Surgery course and achieved his Fellowship of Podiatric Surgery. Declan gained a post as a Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery in 2024 and is working towards a Certificate of Completion of Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPST).

Declan is a Visiting Lecturer to the University of Huddersfield and Ulster University.

Declan’s main interests include the high-risk foot, surgical offloading, and non-medical prescribing. He is keen to promote podiatric surgery and to develop further podiatric surgery services nationwide.

He was elected to the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Committee in 2024.

I was appointed Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham in 2014. I work in private practice at Spire Little Aston Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and at Rowley Hall Hospital in Stafford.

I am an elected Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery and was Conference Co-chair in 2022 and 2023. As part of my role for Faculty I am Tutor Co-ordinator and also sit on the Royal College of Podiatry Academic Quality Assurance Committee. I chair a group of fellows to progress a research strategy for podiatric surgery. This role links with the Royal College of Podiatry’s Research, Development and Innovation Committee.  

In my NHS post I am a surgical tutor and attend the Diabetic Foot MDT. I am working with our vascular, diabetes and podiatry colleagues to develop a funded surgical lower limb preservation pathway across Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell. The aim is to optimise care and provide surgical pathways to reduce the inequity of care that currently exists across the region.

Tony graduated from the Northern College of Podiatry in 1990 and quickly became interested in foot and ankle surgery. After passing membership exams with the Podiatry Association in 1994, he secured a surgical training post in South Derbyshire.

After gaining his Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 1997, Tony continued his training as an SpR in Podiatric Surgery before being appointed as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in 2002. He is employed as Consultant and Clinical Head of Podiatric Surgery with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as offering NHS and private treatments within the independent sector.

Tony was elected Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery in 2009, a post which he held for three years. During this time he was responsible for leading the strategic development of the profession on behalf of the Royal College of Podiatry. He is current chair of clinical governance and Medical Advisory Committee chair with Ramsay Park Hill Hospital, representing the hospital consultants from all specialties at national meetings. In 2019, Tony was awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine within the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, for outstanding contribution to the profession.

With a strong passion for progression Antony has built a solid reputation for clinical excellence and is committed to providing the best care possible. Tony has been elected Chair of Coriel Orthopaedic Group and has led in the development of the Coriel Clinic High Street Hospital.
