Podiatrists are classed as frontline healthcare workers and as such, are eligible for vaccination programmes against flu and COVID-19. This eligibility extends to all patient-facing staff within the clinical setting such as support workers and reception staff. The RCPod has confirmed with all four nations’ Chief Allied Health Professions Officers that all frontline healthcare workers are eligible regardless of their sector of work i.e. those working in the independent/private and third/charity sectors are also eligible for vaccination.

Arrangements for the winter 2023 vaccination programme are nation-specific. Please follow the guidance for your nation. If you are asked to produce evidence of your status, the following documentation should suffice:

  • An NHS staff ID
  • Photo ID and proof of HCPC registration
  • A letter from your employer stating that you are a frontline healthcare worker.

England

Eligible frontline health and social care professionals can now book a COVID-19 vaccination online, by downloading the NHS App or calling 119 for free. You can also speak to your employer for more information about how to get the flu vaccine.

Scotland

Frontline healthcare workers in Scotland can book their vaccines via the dedicated link on the NHS Inform website.

Wales

NHS Wales workers will be able to access the vaccine programme via their occupational health service. For those in the independent and third sectors, please check your local health board’s vaccination website for details of how to access their vaccination service.

Northern Ireland

Frontline healthcare workers will be offered the vaccines via their employer (for HSCNI workers) or can access the programme through participating local pharmacies.
