Rick Brown
Rick Brown is the Clinical Lead of the Foot and Ankle Unit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford. His practice covers all areas of foot and ankle surgery including sports injuries, neurological conditions, complex forefoot pathology, arthritis including arthroplasty and deformity correction as well as the teenage and young adult ankle.
He graduated from the University of Cambridge and King’s College Hospital, London, before completing orthopaedic training on the Middlesex and Stanmore Rotation, London and then Fellowships in Sydney and at Harvard, USA. After appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004, he established the new Foot and Ankle Service in Cheltenham and ran a Regional Paediatric Foot Clinic at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
He is passionate about foot and ankle education having served for nearly ten years on the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) Education Committee, including as Chairman. He has been an Examiner for the FRCS (Tr &Orth) for ten years and for the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). He is now an Assessor of the Examiners. He is a Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer for the University of Oxford, where he runs the Foot and Ankle Fellowship programme. He has written numerous academic papers and several book chapters as well as lecturing across the UK and the world.
He is the President of BOFAS in 2023.
Andrew Coutts

Andrew Coutts
Andrew gained his Fellowship in 2015 and his Certificate of Completion of Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPST) in 2018. He presently works in Derbyshire full-time as a Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery. He has published peer-reviewed articles in international journals on a wide range of subjects and has presented at local conferences, FOPS and Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) conferences with his particular interest being within long-term patient reported outcome measurements.
Furthermore, Andrew has gained a further interest in ultrasound gaining Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE) accreditation which has allowed him to assess the success of carrying out ultrasound guided popliteal blocks to further improve a patient journey through surgery.
Andrew sits on the Trusts Non-Medical Prescribers committee and completed the NHS Leadership course and the RCPod Leadership course which he has found rewarding, and he hopes that this development and his experience can give further impetus on helping to move the PASCOM project forward.
In his spare time, Andrew is a keen cyclist and acts as a domestique for RCPod Cycling Team that took part in the Ride London event earlier this year.

He has presented at numerous regional conferences on the surgical management of the foot and ankle.
James has now been appointed to dual registrar positions in both Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (FT) and Great Western Hospitals NHS FT respectively.
He is now working towards his Certificate of Completion in Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPST) under the tutelage of Mr Andy Naismith, Mr Ben Yates and Mr Matthew Cichero.

Declan's main interests include the high-risk foot, surgical offloading, and non-medical prescribing. He is keen to promote podiatric surgery and to develop further podiatric surgery services, especially in Northern Ireland.

Rena Francis
Rena graduated with an Honour’s Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatry from the University of Westminster and a Post-Graduate Diploma in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery from the University of Brighton. She gained her Surgical Fellowship in 2019 from the Royal College of Podiatry. She is actively involved in promoting her profession through local regional and national presentations and has been involved in the HCPC Annotation of Podiatric Surgery project. She is a regular faculty member on cadaver dissection and surgical skills for podiatrist courses and regularly assists on workshops for potential and aspiring podiatric surgeons.
Within her current role as SpR in Podiatric Surgery at Buxton Hospital she is involved in elective surgery of the foot and ankle, but also has key involvement in MDT care and management of high-risk diabetic patients with limb-threatening diabetic foot ulcers, limb salvage and amputation prevention.
Rena was born in Iraq and was raised in England after her family were offered refugee status in the United Kingdom after the second Gulf War in 1991. She is trilingual and fluent in Aramiac (Syriac), Arabic and English.

It has been Andrea’s career-long ambition since the age of 18 years old to become a Podiatric Surgeon, an ambition that became a reality following the birth of her two children in 2008 and 2010, and the beginning of her MSc in The Theory of Podiatric Surgery in 2011. She achieved her surgical fellowship in 2019 under the tutelage of Mr Stephen Finney and her Independent Prescribing and Annotation in 2020.
In 2021 she began her Specialist Registrar post with Mr Ben Yates and Mr Matthew Cichero at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where she is working towards her Completion Certificate in Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPS). She is building on her portfolio of elective surgical management of the foot including the rear foot, the management of the high-risk foot, limb-salvage and limb-preservation surgery. She also has an on-call presence in the daily management of acute admissions and limb-threatening presentations.
In 2022 as HEE Project officer for the Royal College of Podiatry she led on two national projects for workforce education and reform within the podiatry profession.
She has undertaken multiple research projects and national level presentations and reports within these roles and built on her research, leadership, and education portfolios. Her passion for work in limb salvage, preservation of foot function and amputation prevention, and her enthusiasm for driving the profession forward in advancing clinical practice, will hopefully be forming the next steps in her career journey.

Jill has worked in leading rheumatology and diabetes departments at Leeds and Salford, where she has specialised in MSK and the prescription of orthotic devices. Jill is currently the clinical lead for Podiatry and Research at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
Since joining the Royal College of Podiatry R&D committee in 2019 she has been working with members of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery to raise the profile of research.
Ewan Kannegieter

Ewan Kannegieter, Conference Co-Chair, Faculty of Podiatric Surgery
Mr Kannegieter graduated from Glasgow with a distinction in Podiatric Medicine in 1999 and went on to further his training in Bishops Stortford, Epping, Colchester, Ilkeston and Reading before gaining fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 2012 and CCPST in 2016.
Following three years as a Specialist Registrar in Podiatric Surgery at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, he relocated to the Essex countryside, where he now works both privately and for the NHS as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon.
He was the most recent Chair of the Southern Deanery for Podiatric Surgery in 2020 for three years, and sits on the Royal College of Podiatry Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Board taking up the role of Vice-Dean from July 2021.
Ewan is a reviewer for The Podiatrist the main print podiatry journal in the UK, has been an instructor for Marquardt fixation at their lower limb surgery cadaver courses in Frankfurt, and works as a consultant for Novastep. He is an affiliate lecturer for the University of Huddersfield Masters in Podiatric Surgery programme and sits on the medical advisory committee (MAC) at the Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford.
He has been on faculty for the theultrasoundsite.co.uk team, is a Designated Prescribing Practitioner with ARU and has successfully mentored nurses, physios and podiatrists to become independent prescribers, surgical first assistants, and advanced clinical practitioners. He leads the growing team at Kann Foot Surgery Ltd.

Matt is the clinical lead for MSK podiatry in Oxford and was recently appointed as a specialist registrar in podiatric surgery at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon.
Helen Milnes

Helen Milnes
She is an elected Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery and Conference Co-chair for Podiatric Surgery 2022 and 2023. Helen is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry's Research Development and Innovation Committee and is currently chairing a group of Fellows to devise a research strategy for podiatric surgery.
Helen is a surgical tutor and is a member of the diabetes foot multi-disciplinary team. She is keen to improve care and develop surgical pathways for limb salvage patients to reduce the variation in care that currently exists across Birmingham and Solihull.

Mr Kaser Nazir BSc (Hons) FRCPodS has worked at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust since 2002, where he carries out corrective and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. His role also includes taking responsibility for auditing his department and conducting in-depth research to make sure that the foot and ankle service is constantly updated with best practice. In his private practice, Mr Nazir is Clinical Director of London Foot and Ankle Surgery.
After qualifying in 2001 from the London Foot Hospital and School of Podiatric Medicine, Mr Nazir trained in London, Surrey, and Norfolk, and at St Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, which led to him being awarded his Fellowship in Podiatric Foot Surgery.
He takes an extremely contemporary approach to managing disorders of the foot and ankle, making the most of cutting-edge treatments and diagnostic techniques, to consistently deliver the best possible results and allow patients to return to their normal lives with minimal disruption.
He is the chair of MAC and governance lead for UME health, 17 Harley Street and is involved with setting up healthcare imaging ventures in London and the Middle East
He is also the current Dean of Faculty of Podiatric Surgery

Derek Protheroe
Derek graduated with a BSc honours degree in Podiatry from Cardiff in 2005. He completed an MSc in MSK studies of lower limb from Cardiff before embarking on and completing the theory and the new Masters in Podiatric Surgery training programme from Huddersfield in 2023. His training has been under the tutelage of Mr Richard Green at Wye Valley NHS Trust, gaining fellowship in 2023. He continues to pursue his role as a Specialist Registrar and is working towards his Certificate of Completion of Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPST) in Wye Valley NHS Trust.
Derek recognises the need for learning and development and works as an associate lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University providing lectures as part of both the under and postgraduate podiatry programmes. He also works as a foot and ankle sonographer having established a diagnostic foot and ankle ultrasound service in his other role as an advanced practitioner in South Wales.
Professor Mark Tagoe

Professor Mark Tagoe
Mark Tagoe was appointed as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at West Middlesex University Hospital in 1992. He leads one of the most progressive NHS Departments specialising in foot and ankle surgery. In recognition of his commitment and contribution to education, Mark was appointed Honorary Visiting Professor to the University of Southampton. He is an international lecturer on foot and ankle pathology and innovative surgery with over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters. Mark also holds an Honorary post as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and is a Visiting Consultant Podiatric Surgeon for the Dubai Health Authority. At the Dubai Hospital he has helped establish the limb salvage surgery centre for the at-risk diabetic foot.
Past appointments include Vice Chairman of the Specialist Advisory Board (Podiatric Surgery) Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Dean of Faculty the Royal College of Podiatric Surgery, Regional Chair of the Southern Deanery, External Clinical Faculty Instructor to Kern Hospital USA podiatric surgical training programme, and Visiting Professor at the University of Ulster.

Jade Tang
Jade is working towards her Certificate of Completion of Podiatric Surgery Training (CCPST).
She has lectured nationally and internationally and is an advocate for progressing her profession as a mentor and within the NHS. Jade proudly runs an independent Journal Club in the Southern Deanery since 2019 that she founded on the premise to bring surgeons together to discuss and debate current practice and podiatric surgery-related concepts.

Anthony Wilkinson
Mr Wilkinson Graduated from the Northern College of Podiatry in 1990 and quickly became interested in foot and ankle surgery. After passing membership exams with the Podiatry association in 1994, he secured a surgical training post in South Derbyshire.
After gaining his fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 1997, Antony continued his training as an SpR in Podiatric Surgery before being appointed as a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon in 2002. He is employed as Consultant and Clinical Head of Podiatric Surgery with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as well as offering NHS and private treatments within the independent sector.
Antony was elected Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery in 2009, a post which he held for three years. During this time he was responsible for leading the strategic development of the profession on behalf of the College of Podiatry. He is currently chair of Clinical Governance and Medical Advisory Committee with Ramsay Park Hill Hospital, representing the hospital consultants from all specialties at national meetings. In 2019, Antony was awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine within the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, for his outstanding contribution to the profession.
In 2020 Antony was involved in setting up Coriel Orthopaedic Group along with six orthopaedic surgeons. The group is developing rapidly and has admitted one other orthopaedic director and one podiatric Associate. They have purchased their own clinic, developing a multidisciplinary team from multiple medical and surgical specialities. In 2023 Antony was elected Chairman of the group.

Ben Yates
Mr Ben Yates graduated as a podiatrist in 1989 passing with distinction and clinical prize. He completed his surgical fellowship in 1997. He was formally the head of podiatry at both University College Northampton and La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. He moved to Swindon in 2003 and works as a consultant podiatric surgeon at the Great Western Hospital.
He practices all aspects of foot and ankle surgery and has a special interest in limb salvage surgery. He has lectured at both national and international courses and conferences.
