Every year there is a huge gathering of podiatrists, podiatry students and trade exhibitors at the College of Podiatry annual conference. The conference brings people together from all over the UK and further afield to refresh their skills and knowledge, learn about new research and clinical skills, meet up with old friends and generally have a great time.
PODIATRY ON SHOW
The format the conference takes includes lectures, workshops, equipment demonstrations, poster presentations, key note speakers and a great trade exhibition.
What the conference demonstrates every year is the diversity of roles podiatrists fill, all from the same starting point, a degree in Podiatry and this year’s conference in Harrogate is no exception.
It’s a great place for everyone from podiatry students through to seasoned practitioners to meet and be inspired by people who could help influence and shape the different stages of their studies and career.

Under one roof there are podiatrists working with high risk patients in the NHS, there are practitioners launching new businesses, those working in research to push the boundaries of the profession and others lecturing to undergraduate and post graduate students.
Some podiatrists are working in husband & wife teams running amazing private practices, others are working in sales, bringing cutting edge technology to the profession, whilst some are working in musculoskeletal practice with professional sports men & women.
There are also UK trained podiatrists working overseas in specialist diabetes clinics in Dubai, as part of the flying doctor service in Australia and others working in the leprosy street clinics in Nepal and India.
We could go on but I’m sure you get the idea.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The conference demonstrates every year that there is almost no limit to how or where you develop your career in podiatry. You only have to look round the diversity of businesses exhibiting at the trade show to see how varied the profession is by the equipment & resources that are used.

There are 3D printers producing custom orthotics (insoles), autoclaves for sterilising clinical instruments, dressings & padding to protect wounds. Innovations in clinical furniture and equipment are making the lives of the practitioners easier. Specialist practice management software sits alongside virtual reception services, practitioner training & technology driven diagnostic and assessment tools.
EAT DRINK SLEEP PODIATRY
Looking around the conference there is a lot of laughter and smiling faces, a sense of pride at being part of a profession that is making a big contribution to society. The conference also has a great social events programme in the evenings including quiz night, formal dinner, visit to local point of interest and student social (which is also attended by many podiatrists trying relive their student days!). Whilst learning and innovating in any profession is a serious business, the annual podiatry conference enables attendees to network and socialise, catch up with friends, make new ones alongside learning and growing professionally!
