The Doppler Girls: Advancing peripheral vascular assessment CPD day

The RCPod London District Branch, in partnership with Joanne Casey and Emily Haworth, have arranged a fantastic opportunity for practitioners to develop and advance their vascular assessment skills at One Park Crescent, Central London on Sunday 14 June.

Joanne Casey
Joanne is a specialist independent podiatrist with over 22 years of experience in clinical practice, research, and leadership. She is currently a Principal Podiatrist at Aldred Casey Medical Ltd and holds academic and leadership roles with the University of Southampton and the Legs Matter coalition.

Emily Haworth
Emily has spent three quarters of her podiatric career in the acute sector with a hospital MDT in the diabetic and vascular setting. She has a Masters in the High Risk Limb and is hugely passionate about preventing chronic disease and especially that first DFU. Merging MSK and high risk skills are essential in this life aim. She has post grad qualifications in Podiatric Sports Medicine. She is qualified in injection therapy and is pursuing her Accreditation in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Emily also completed a Prof Diploma in Positive Health Psychology with the RCSI. She was National Education Officer for Podiatry Ireland for four years before moving to the UK to take up as clinical lead in Swansea NHS trust. She has since moved back to Ireland to work as a Clinical Specialist Podiatrist.

CPD day brief
Peripheral arterial disease continues to be one of the most significant contributors to avoidable lower‑limb harm, yet many clinicians report uncertainty when assessing vascular status or deciding when to escalate concerns. This CPD day has been designed for podiatrists and clinicians working with the foot and lower limb to strengthen skills in vascular assessment and to build confidence in clinical decision‑making when managing patients with peripheral vascular disease.

The day will offer a supportive environment to refresh knowledge and skills, develop confidence and elevate clinical practice to ensure timely, safe, and effective vascular assessment. There will be a mix of lectures and practical activities aiming to explore the essential components of lower‑limb vascular assessment and how to apply them to everyday clinical practice to equip learners with the tools to detect early vascular compromise and act decisively to protect limb health.

By the end of the session learners should be able to:

  • Perform and document comprehensive vascular assessments
  • Identify acute and critical limb ischaemia
  • Be aware of national limb assessment tools and referral recommendations
  • Communicate risk clearly to patients, carers, and colleagues

Learners will also be invited to join an exclusive WhatsApp group for a period of six months following the CPD day to continue the supportive environment when back in clinical practice.

The CPD Day will also be kindly supported by Canonbury Healthcare. A trade stand will be present.
