This practical ultrasound workshop is supported by industry who provide high specification machines and expertise. It is aimed at all levels of practitioner, from those new to scanning who want to learn the basics and gain hands-on experience, to more experienced scanners looking for hints and tips to optimise their scanning practice. This hands-on workshop is a fantastic CPD opportunity and will help to advance your scope of practice.

Regional blocks and therapeutic injections

Led by David Goyette, Podiatric Surgeon.
Assisted by Lesley Posmyk, Podiatric Surgeon, and Richard Lang, SpR Podiatric Surgery.
This session will provide an excellent overview in the theory and practical undertaking of regional anaesthetic blocks and therapeutic injections, both of which are core skills in a wide range of podiatric practice. It is ideal for those who want to pursue a career in podiatric surgery (whether this be as a staff podiatrist of podiatric surgeon), or MSK.

Vascular assessments and specialist imaging with vascular surgical principles

Led by: Martin Fox, Vascular Specialist, Mrs Rachel Sam, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, and Mrs Anna Murray, Consultant Vascular Surgeon.
The involvement of podiatric surgery in the at-risk arena and the increasing working relations alongside vascular teams has led the way for an evolving and enhanced practice. This workshop will help enhance the application of theory and practical vascular clinical assessments, the rationale and interpretation of specialist imaging used in vascular assessment and the principles of vascular surgery. The workshop is ideal for all grades including surgical trainees, registrars and consultants, as well as non-surgical podiatrists working in this area.

Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS)

Led by Mr Tony Wilkinson, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon, and Mr Tommy Chan, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon
The hugely popular Minimal Invasive Surgery workshop will be conducted by leaders in the field from the UK and USA and supported by industry. The session is a practical workshop which will introduce attendees to the principles and techniques used in a variety of MIS foot and ankle procedures, for elective and the “at-risk “ caseload.
Due to limited availability this workshop is available to Fellows only; 24 per session.

Thinking pharmacology through surgical episodes

Led by Dr Stephen Hughes, Consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist
The pharmacology workshop is delivered by one of the most inspirational podiatry pharmacologists. It is a fantastic opportunity for attendees to refresh current knowledge and consider practical pharmacology, clinically applied to the surgical patient and their medical regimes. Key areas and challenges around analgesia, antimicrobial management and anticoagulation will provide invaluable takeaway knowledge and is excellent evidence of CPD for independent prescribers. The workshop is beneficial for all grades including surgical trainees, registrars and consultants, as well as non-surgical podiatrists.

External fixation frames theory and practical

Led by Dr Coleman Clougherty DPM
This is a new workshop for 2024 and is being delivered by one of our DPM colleagues who uses external frames regularly in the management of the diabetic foot. As our involvement in this area of work increases, our arsenal needs to increase to optimally manage these patients.
This workshops is available to Fellows only (registrars and consultants); 16 per session

Structural and functional assessment of the foot and ankle

Led by Dr Mark Razzante DPM, and Dr Christina Pratt DPM
This is a crucial ability required by all clinicians, irrespective of the area of practice in which they are involved. This hands-on workshop will provide a systematic approach to assessing the foot and ankle, including strength and neurological testing and most importantly, what the findings tell us. It would be of benefit to any level of clinician, whether student or newly graduated, all the way through to the experienced surgeons who want a refresher.

Sawbone workshop

Led by Matt Rothwell, Podiatric Surgeon
Assisted by Kerry Clark, Podiatric Surgeon, Chih-Kai Huang, Podiatric Surgeon, and Aaron McCusker, SpR Podiatric Surgery

Even the newer surgical trainees will find benefit from this workshop. Hands-on experience under the guidance of some experienced surgeons in a session supported by industry to undertake bunion corrections, joint fusions and toe straightening.
