Volunteer Membership Committee Member
We are recruiting for the following representative roles: Student, Early Career, Mid-Career, Advanced, Pre-retirement
Purpose of the role
The Membership Committee is a strategic advisory body that supports the Royal College of Podiatry’s mission to grow, retain and engage members across all sectors of practice. Members provide insight into the needs and experiences of podiatrists at different career stages, helping to shape the College’s membership strategy, value proposition and overall member experience.
Committee members act in an advisory capacity and do not hold financial or operational authority.
Key responsibilities
- Provide insight into the needs, expectations and experiences of members within your career stage
- Contribute to discussions on membership strategy, categories, benefits and engagement
- Review trends in recruitment, retention, satisfaction and diversity across the membership
- Champion member voice by engaging with Branches, Networks and the Members’ Forum
- Support the development of inclusive, accessible and equitable membership services
- Participate in monitoring risks and performance against key indicators
- Collaborate with other College committees to ensure joined‑up decision‑making
Skills and experience
Candidates should be:
- A fully paid‑up member of the Royal College of Podiatry
- Currently in the career stage they wish to represent (Student, Early Career, Mid‑Career, Advanced, Pre‑retirement)
- Able to reflect the views and experiences of peers within their career stage
- Interested in membership engagement, professional development and the future of the profession
- Comfortable analysing information, contributing constructively and working collaboratively
Personal attributes
- Sound judgement and the ability to consider diverse perspectives
- Constructive, collaborative and respectful in discussion
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
- Willingness to contribute time, insight and professional experience
- Adherence to the College’s Code of Conduct for Committee Members
Time commitment
- Minimum of three meetings per year, primarily online.
- Occasional additional virtual discussions or task‑and‑finish groups.
- Up to one in‑person meeting annually (expenses reimbursed in line with policy)
Term length
- Three‑year term, renewable once (maximum six years)
- Members must step down if they no longer meet the criteria for the role they represent
Remuneration
This is a voluntary, non‑remunerated position. Reasonable travel expenses for in‑person meetings will be reimbursed in line with College policy.
