Background

As a part of the AHP Workstream Projects commissioned by Health Education England (HEE), this project focused on ensuring newly-qualified podiatrists are supported and retained, whilst enhancing early career development opportunities.

Activities included:
  • Working with podiatry managers to ensure graduates have access to an NHS Band 5 job offer
  • Promoting optimisation of practice-based learning
  • Increasing capability, confidence, and system responsibility of new graduates in the workforce by promoting the scope of practice at a Band 5
  • Highlighting the opportunities of preceptorship.

With podiatry workforce levels becoming increasingly pressured, it is important that as many students as possible complete the programme of study, increasing the rate of new graduates opting to work in the NHS and experiencing a rewarding early career.
