Leicestershire County Council has announced that tighter rules are needed because cases of the virus are increasing amongst all age groups – particularly young people and those over 60.

Independent practitioners in affected areas should therefore only treat red and amber patients on the College's COVID-19 treatment grid.

Increased restrictions have been placed on residents in Leicester and the following outlying areas that touch the city's boundaries, including:

In Blaby District:

  • Braunstone Town (including Fosse Park)
  • Glenfield
  • Glen Parva
  • Leicester Forest East (East of the M1)
  • Thorpe Astley

In Charnwood:

  • Birstall
  • Thurmaston
  • All areas of Oadby and Wigston

For this reason, the College is instructing members in these areas that they are to resort back to treating red and amber patients only.

Leicestershire County Council has published a map and additional details here.

The lockdown measures will be reviewed by the Government in two weeks’ time.
