RCPod responds to Scottish Government's Programme for Government 2025-26

The First Minister has set out his Programme for Government for 2025 to 2026 and the legislative programme for the next parliamentary year
The Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) welcomes the Scottish government’s Programme for Government and its focus on the NHS in Scotland. Fully utilising the skillset of podiatrists will play a key role in achieving NHS reform and renewal. From primary care, to community, to acute hospitals, podiatrists have the ability to practice across every area of health providing prevention, early intervention and acute treatment.
Despite the wide-ranging roles undertaken by podiatrists, they are currently under-represented at decision-making levels leaving their potential contribution unheard and unrecognised. To successfully address waiting times and redirect health into a preventative service, the voice of allied health professionals, the third largest health workforce, must be heard to ensure the full scope of podiatry practice is utilised to the benefit of the people of Scotland.
The RCPod and its members look forward to podiatry’s prevention-first approach and full skillset being fully recognised in the 10-year Service Renewal Framework due to be published before the summer.
