RCPod joins the call for the Prime Minister to unblock the NHS Workforce Plan
Several professional bodies, unions and charities have written to the Prime Minister asking him to publish the government’s healthcare workforce plans in England
Today the Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) joined 40 professional bodies, health charities, unions and the NHS Confederation in urging the Prime Minister to publish a funded plan for the healthcare workforce in England.
The letter, co-ordinated by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, warns the Prime Minister that his promises to improve the NHS cannot be met unless the workforce crisis gripping the British healthcare system is addressed. The workforce plan was originally scheduled for publication in Spring 2022 but has still not been published.
Commenting on the call, Dr Paul Chadwick, Interim Chief Executive Officer at the RCPod said:
“As the number of people with long-term conditions such as diabetes and peripheral arterial disease increase, there is an urgent need to ensure that there are enough podiatrists to prevent foot complications - enabling people to have a better quality of life free of ulceration, infection and amputation. The government must commit to a fully funded workforce plan with prevention at the heart of it.”
