Health Education England (HEE) has awarded the Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) the responsibility for establishing an accreditation pathway for courses that prepare individuals for roles in the unregulated foot health workforce.
HEE has also made RCPod the lead organisation of the accreditation pathway for individuals wishing to be assessed against HEE’s Standards for the Foot Health Workforce and, when complete, the agreed Standards of Education and Training (SETs) for the Foot Health Workforce.
This news comes after the Royal College successfully bid for the project as part of an open HEE tender process.
The Royal College’s work in this area is still in its infancy, and it is committed to keeping members and other organisations involved in foot health informed about its progress.
Whilst RCPod is the designated authority to oversee and lead this work, the Royal College is conscious that its success will be a vital step for the entire foot health workforce. RCPod intends to work closely and collaboratively with all those stakeholders interested in the education and training standards of the foot health support workforce over the coming months. The Royal College is mindful of the responsibility HEE has placed on it. To that end, RCPod is aware of the need to work constructively with others throughout the process.
