UK Government Emergency Alert testing on Sunday
A new UK Government Emergency Alert System will send out a test alert at 3.00pm on Sunday (23 April)
We would like to make members aware that the new UK Government Emergency Alert System will send out a test alert to mobile phones at 3pm on Sunday 23 April.
This is a test and the public do not need to take any action. All people need to do is swipe away the message or click ‘OK’ on their phone’s home screen.
What will happen
The test alert will take place at 3.00pm on Sunday 23 April. People will receive a message on the home screen of their mobile phone, which will also vibrate and sound for up to ten seconds. This alert will sound even if your phone is on silent. To prevent your phone from activating during this time, ensure your phone is powered down.
The message will say:
“This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby.
“In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe.
“Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information.
“This is a test. You do not need to take any action.”
