The President of the College of Podiatry, Lord Roy Kennedy of Southwark, has added his voice to the TUC’s campaign to save the Union Learning Fund (ULF), urging the government to reconsider its decision.

The College recently raised concerns that the fund, whose initiatives have supported workforce learning and education since 1998, might face closure. It has subsequently joined the campaign to save it.

Lord Kennedy said: ‘I fully support the TUC’s campaign to save the Union Learning Fund (ULF) and I am delighted that the College of Podiatry is joining that campaign. I know that many College members have benefited from ULF initiatives in the past and it is vital that this valuable resource continues to be available to them. At a time of great economic uncertainty, diversifying the skills that our workforce has to offer is essential to meeting the challenges of the uncertain times ahead. We need to invest more in training, not less. I urge the government to reconsider its decision to close the ULF.’
