The RCPod's Employment Support Committee will now meet to discuss its response

The Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) today (27 April 2023) announced that its members in the NHS in England have rejected the latest government offer, which included improvements to the 2022 settlement and a one-off payment for 2023.

71.2% of those voting rejected the offer, and 28.8% voted to accept on a turnout of 25%.

Acting General Secretary Martin Furlong said:

“This clear rejection of the offer shows that our members in the NHS have had enough of being underpaid and in an overstretched service where job vacancies are growing. There is a workforce crisis in podiatry that needs addressing. However, we are committed to working with the other NHS trade unions and the government to find a solution acceptable to our members and the entire NHS team.”

The RCPod’s Employment Support Committee will meet shortly to discuss its response. The College will also attend the NHS Staff Council next week, where the NHS unions will formally vote on the pay offer.

NHS pay in your area

The UK is split into four nations for NHS pay: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Each nation operates under varying systems of offers and negotiations. Separate arrangements exist in the Isle of Man for employees of Manx Care.

When an offer or pay award is received, members working for the NHS in the affected country are notified by email and via their workplace representatives and members are consulted on the offer. Notifications are also placed on all RCPod news pages and social media accounts. Frequently checking our news page is the best way to find out the latest news and information from the College.
