NHS pay - England update
GMB, Unison, Unite and the CSP have joined the RCN and paused industrial action.
You may well have seen that the GMB, Unison, Unite and the CSP have joined the RCN and paused industrial action.
This follows an invitation from the government to the NHS unions to what it describes as ‘intensive talks’. These conversations are to resolve disputes about 2022 pay and to discuss the 2023 deal. This invitation does not include the RCN, who are already in discussions.
Whilst there are no firm details, the government has confirmed that any new offer for 2022 would be fully funded. In other words, NHS Trusts would not have to find extra money from their existing budgets.
The Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) welcomes these discussions as an alternative to industrial action. We are committed to finding a way forward.
Acting General Secretary of the RCPod, Martin Furlong, said:
“We welcome the change in approach from the government. Proper negotiations have always been the route to take to an agreement and to avoid further industrial action. We will enter these talks positively and with a view to reaching an agreement that means our members have a pay rise to help them through the cost-of-living crisis”.
These talks are expected to commence imminently. The RCPod will continue to keep members informed of any significant developments.
